As part of the Coming “Renewal,” Christians will Rededicate America as One Nation Under God

On February 5, 2026, Donald Trump attended the National Prayer Breakfast, where he told an audience of political and religious leaders that he has done more for religion than any other president. He claimed that, because of his leadership, religion is coming back stronger than ever before, stating that churches across the country are seeing a 30 to 70 percent increase in attendance. Trump also said that this growing momentum to restore religion will culminate in a national rededication, in which he, along with leaders from both government and various religious traditions, plans to rededicate America as one nation under God as part of a coming “renewal” on May 17, 2026.

From a prophetic, biblical perspective, this development is precisely how the mark of the beast will come about through policy agendas—such as those advanced by organizations like the Heritage Foundation—that call for restoring Sunday as a uniform national day of rest in the name of saving America. Revelation 13 describes church leaders uniting with political power to “bring the nation back to God” through civil authority rather than simply preaching the everlasting gospel under the power of the Holy Spirit. Prophecy warns that forced worship begins when religious leaders use the strong arm of civil power to coerce people to follow their teachings. What starts out sounding like “renewal” or “moral restoration” ends up replacing God’s commandments with human traditions. When church and government work together this way, the result is laws that require conformity to the teaching of the church—such as Sunday laws—not because people choose it, but because it is enforced.

Statements like “I’ve done more for religion than any other president” send a clear message to religious leaders that political support can be exchanged for influence and policy concessions. At the same time, politicians—eager to gain public favor through religious constituencies—become willing to yield to religious demands and grant them what they seek. According to Scripture, this is precisely how the final Sunday law crisis develops: through the union of church influence and political power, not by open force at first, but through corruption and compromise.

“Political corruption is destroying love of justice and regard for truth; and even in free America, rulers and legislators, in order to secure public favor, will yield to the popular demand for a law enforcing Sunday observance. Liberty of conscience, which has cost so great a sacrifice, will no longer be respected. In the soon-coming conflict we shall see exemplified the prophet’s words: ‘The dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Great Controversy, p. 592).

When political power and religious authority unite, the Bible describes this alliance as spiritual fornication—an unfaithful union in which both sides abandon their God-given sphere of influence in exchange for something that both the Bible and the Constitution forbid. Scripture portrays this illicit relationship in Revelation, where a corrupt religious power commits fornication with the “kings of the earth” by using civil authority to advance its spiritual agenda (Revelation 17:1–2). Instead of trusting God and appealing to conscience through the sweet voice of God’s Holy Spirit, religion today seeks enforcement through the state, while political leaders seek moral legitimacy through religious endorsement.

James warns the church that friendship with worldly powers places one in opposition to God, declaring that “friendship of the world is enmity with God” (James 4:4). The result is not revival but a counterfeit deception—what Revelation describes as a Babylonian system that “deceiveth them that dwell on the earth” (Revelation 13:14), enforcing worship through law rather than winning hearts through truth. According to Scripture, this unholy partnership does not honor God or produce genuine spiritual renewal; instead, it commits spiritual adultery against Him and prepares the world to receive the mark of the beast and the seven last plagues.
