Following weeks of back-and-forth criticism and open attacks between Pope Leo XIV and President Donald Trump, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Pope Leo at the Vatican on May 7, 2026, in a closed-door meeting that reportedly lasted 45 minutes. The purpose was clear: to calm the controversy, ease tensions, and mend relations between Washington and the Holy See. But behind the headlines, prophecy once again reveals a stark reality—America needs Rome’s favor, and Rome needs America’s power. Trump sent Rubio, a Catholic statesman, to smooth things over with Rome, give them reassurances, and rekindle the warm and close relationship that Bible prophecy says would exist between these two powers.
The Vatican released the following statement about Pope Leo and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on May 7, 2026:
• “During the cordial discussions held in the Vatican with the American Secretary of State Marco Rubio this morning, first with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV and subsequently with His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin and His Excellency Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, he shared commitment to fostering good bilateral relations between the Holy See and the United States of America was reaffirmed.” [1]
• “There was then an exchange of views on the regional and international situation, with particular attention to countries affected by war, political tensions and difficult humanitarian situations, as well as the need to work tirelessly to promote peace.” [1]
On the surface, this all sounds good, even noble—but prophecy looks beyond the polished press releases and asks, “What happens when the religious power of the Old World and the civil power of the New World begin speaking the same language, pursuing the same goals, and shaping the same global moral agenda?”
In Revelation 13, the first beast represents the Papal system—a religious-political power that rose from the ruins of imperial Rome, claimed spiritual supremacy, exercised authority over kings, persecuted dissenters, and sought to change God’s law (Daniel 7:25). The second beast of Revelation 13 represents the United States that rose like a lamb, symbolizing youth, liberty, republicanism, Protestant principles, and freedom of conscience. But prophecy says that this lamb-like power will eventually form into an image of the first beast, Rome, and speak like a dragon (Revelation 13:11). That means America, once known for religious liberty and the separation of church and state, will eventually use civil authority in a way that reflects the coercive spirit of Rome.
That is why meetings between the United States and the Vatican matter prophetically. The Vatican statement says that the United States and the Holy See reaffirmed “good bilateral relations.” This means cooperation between these two sovereign entities. But in prophetic language, it shows the second beast drawing closer to the first beast. The United States, instead of maintaining a clear separation of powers between civil government and religious influence, is increasingly treating the Vatican as a global moral partner it must work with in solving the world’s crises.
Make no mistake, Revelation 13:12 says the second beast will cause the earth and them that dwell therein to worship the first beast. That means the United States will eventually use its influence to lead the world back toward the authority of Rome. The final issue will be worship, obedience, and the commandments of God—particularly the conflict between Sunday, Rome’s tradition, and the true Sabbath, Saturday, the seal of God (Revelation 14:7). Prophecy has long declared that Sunday legislation will become the visible mark of this union between the two beasts of Revelation 13. Therefore, when the Vatican and the United States speak of shared commitments to peace and global order, we must watch these events carefully.
