On May 12, 2026, The Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts publicly praised the Trump administration’s willingness to be a “true friend” of the Vatican in a post shared on his X social media account while visiting Rome. He wrote the following:
• “Exciting day in Rome filming for a special series of The Kevin Roberts Show, overlooking St. Peter’s Basilica. It was great to catch up with my friend @BrianBurchUSA, our superb Ambassador to the Vatican. The Church has true friends in Ambassador Burch and the Trump administration.” [1]

This statement reveals the growing love and alignment that conservative political forces in the United States profess toward the leadership of the Roman Catholic Church. Roberts is not just a Catholic political commentator; he is one of the most influential architects of the modern conservative movement in the United States through The Heritage Foundation—the think tank closely associated with shaping many Trump-era policies outlined in Project 2025 and the Saving America document, which openly advocates for making Sunday to be the universal day of rest. Kevin Roberts posted his message while in Rome overlooking the Vatican. At the center of Roberts’ post is Brian Burch, a prominent Catholic conservative and Trump ally serving as the U.S. ambassador to the Vatican. Roberts described Burch as a “true friend” of the Church and went even further by declaring that “the Trump administration” itself is a friend of the Church. Tragically, the partnership being created goes beyond diplomacy and reflects an effort to build a deeper ideological alliance grounded in shared religious and political objectives.
This relationship becomes even more concerning when considering how initiatives such as Project 2025, Saving America, and other conservative policy platforms coordinated by The Heritage Foundation and supported by many Trump allies seek to reshape the federal government around explicitly religious and moral principles. These developments reveal increasing cooperation between religious institutions and political power. The issue is not whether people of faith can or cannot participate in government; that is a constitutional right, but whether government authority is being used to advance specific religious agendas and doctrines through public policy and state influence.
Kevin Roberts filming and taking pictures “overlooking St. Peter’s Basilica” while praising the Trump administration’s friendship with the Catholic Church is also highly revealing. St. Peter’s Basilica is the seat of the Papacy and represents the historic center of Roman Catholic influence and authority. For a leading American political strategist to publicly celebrate the growing alignment between these two powerful entities sends a clear message that conservative American politics and the interests of the Vatican are finding increasing common ground.
This partnership will lead to the fulfillment of Revelation 13—the moment when our United States government sacrifices every principle of our Constitution in order to promote the doctrines of Rome by law. The close union of political power and organized religion will inevitably create pressure to adopt apostate religious teachings. Church-state alliances always lead to restrictions, coercion, persecution, and discrimination against minorities.
“The enforcement of Sunday-keeping on the part of Protestant churches is an enforcement of the worship of the papacy—of the beast. Those who, understanding the claims of the fourth commandment, choose to observe the false instead of the true Sabbath; are thereby paying homage to that power by which alone it is commanded. But in the very act of enforcing a religious duty by secular power, the churches would themselves form an image to the beast; hence the enforcement of Sunday-keeping in the United States would be an enforcement of the worship of the beast and his image” (Great Controversy, p. 448).
