On September 24, 2026, Pope Leo XIV addressed the Pontifical Academy of Sciences during a meeting with public officials and various religious leaders. The Pope explicitly encouraged continued cooperation among scientists, government authorities, civil society, and members of different religious traditions to address the so-called climate crisis. He explicitly seeks to unite Church and State—religious leaders and policymakers—to respond with “action” in order to save the world.
The Holy See Press Office published the following statements by Pope Leo:
• “We are witnessing heatwaves, droughts, floods, storms, wildfires and other natural disasters with increasing frequency and intensity.” [1]
• “It follows that the climate question is not merely an environmental challenge, it is fundamentally a question of justice, human dignity and solidarity between peoples and generations. We cannot respond to these challenges only after disaster has already struck.” [1]
• “We need to move from emergency response to prevention, from vulnerability to preparedness, and from short-term measures to a wise and far-sighted vision for humanity.” [1]
• “In this effort, cooperation across disciplines is indispensable. Climate resilience requires the collaboration of scientists, engineers, economists, physicians and social scientists, together with local communities and policymakers.” [1]
• “The challenges of a changing climate cross every boundary between disciplines, institutions and nations; our response must therefore cross them as well.” [1]
• “It is encouraging that these gatherings bring together not only scientists, but also young people, public authorities, representatives of civil society and members of different religious traditions.” [1]
• “Such gatherings create spaces where knowledge can be shared across borders, where successful experiences can be learned from and adapted, and where scientific understanding can be translated into practical action. I encourage you to continue along this path.” [1]
Pope Leo’s worldwide Sunday-centered climate program cannot be imposed upon the world through ecclesiastical authority alone; it would require the civil power of governments to take those religious teachings and implement them into public policy and law. Pope Leo XIV is already calling for climate action that crosses institutional and national boundaries and specifically welcomes cooperation involving public authorities, civil society, policymakers, and different religious traditions, while speaking of moving toward a global “common plan.”
In Catholic social teaching the pairing of religious leadership with state authority under the “common good” is necessary to advance Rome’s agenda. When this mechanism is embraced, it will restore Rome as the most important and worldwide superpower. Under the reign of the Antichrist, no one will be permitted to overshadow the authority, power, and prestige of the Papacy. The entire world will submit to her authority.
“And the woman (church) which thou sawest is that great city (Rome), which reigneth over the kings of the earth.” Revelation 17:18.
“And all the world wondered after the beast (Rome).” Revelation 13:3.
“And the dragon (Satan) gave him (beast) his power, and his seat, and great authority.” Revelation 13:2.
“The Protestant world will learn what the purposes of Rome really are, only when it is too late to escape the snare. She is silently growing into power. Her doctrines are exerting their influence in legislative halls, in the churches, and in the hearts of men. She is piling up her lofty and massive structures, in the secret recesses of which her former persecutions will be repeated. Stealthily and unsuspectedly she is strengthening her forces to further her own ends when the time shall come for her to strike. All that she desires is vantage-ground, and this is already being given her. We shall soon see and shall feel what the purpose of the Roman element is. Whoever shall believe and obey the Word of God will thereby incur reproach and persecution.” (Great Controversy, p. 581).
