With each passing day, the movement to reclaim Sunday as the day of rest is gaining momentum across the world. What was once seen as merely a Christian observance is now being embraced as an environmental and health solution. In a striking development, even nations outside the Christian world are embracing Sunday laws.
Pakistan, a Muslim-majority nation where Islam is the state religion, has now implemented its own Sunday restrictions. On November 4, 2025, the High Court of Lahore—the capital and largest city of the Punjab province—ordered the complete shutdown of all commercial activity on Sundays as part of an initiative to combat severe air pollution.
The News International, one of Pakistan’s largest English-language daily newspapers, published the following report on November 4, 2025:
• “The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday imposed a complete ban on all commercial activities every Sunday in Lahore to tackle the worsening problem of smog and environmental pollution.” [1]
• “LHC Justice Shahid Karim heard a set of petitions on environmental issues and ordered the complete closure of commercial activities on Sundays and strict enforcement.” [1]
• “Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, was ranked as the most polluted city in the world again on Tuesday.” [1]
• “Breathing toxic air has catastrophic health consequences, with the WHO warning that strokes, heart disease, lung cancer, and respiratory diseases can be triggered by prolonged exposure.” [1]
Lahore, once celebrated as Pakistan’s cultural and business center, has tragically become the most polluted city in the world. In response, civil authorities have adopted a mandatory Sunday closure law, presenting it as a necessary solution to restore public health and environmental balance.
This decision is yet another sign of the growing worldwide appeal of Sunday rest. It reflects the growing interest that sees Sunday as the key in which the world unites under a common theme. What we are witnessing in Pakistan is part of a larger, coordinated movement unfolding across the world—uniting people of every nation around Sunday rest in the name of health, family, spirituality, and environmental preservation.
Revelation 13 and 14 describe a time when all the world will wonder after the beast, and the increasing global recognition of Sunday as the day of rest fits perfectly into this prophetic scenario. As more governments and faith communities embrace Sunday as the answer to the world’s moral and ecological decline, they are advancing the prophetic scenario outlined in Revelation.
“The powers of earth, uniting to war against the commandments of God, will decree that all, ‘both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond,’ [Revelation 13:16.] shall conform to the customs of the church by the observance of the false sabbath. All who refuse compliance will be visited with civil penalties, and it will finally be declared that they are deserving of death” (Great Controversy, p. 604).
