“But God will have a people upon the earth to maintain the Bible, and the Bible only, as the standard of all doctrines and the basis of all reforms. The opinions of learned men, the deductions of science, the creeds or decisions of ecclesiastical councils, as numerous and discordant as are the churches which they represent, the voice of the majority—not one nor all of these should be regarded as evidence for or against any point of religious faith. Before accepting any doctrine or precept, we should demand a plain “Thus saith the Lord” in its support.” Great Controversy, p. 595
So if the delegates in session closed the discussion twice at the GC as the voice of God
The steering committee set itself above the voice of God?
I am glad that it happened so, however, this makes the statements made about the delegates as being the voice of God, irrelevant. This voice of God needs some serious revision.
Practical Lessons for the Church of today, by F.C. Gilbert (1926) “When the teachings of any people are left to the minds of just a few, who are to regulate their every mode of living, the religion of the people will soon dwindle into mere formalism; their piety will consist in the observance outwardly of the legal enactments of the teachers; and at the same time there will be built up a sort of spiritual despotism, with these men as the ecclesiastical despots.”
