Business Insider is a leading multinational business and financial news organization based in New York City that reports on technology, economics, real estate, artificial intelligence, the stock market and other business news. In a not-so-surprising shift, the financial and business world is increasingly aligning itself with those advocating for Sunday rest. The financial sector has joined the mission of exploring ways to improve public health through a day of rest—Sunday. As a result, the push for a universal day of rest is gaining traction everywhere, including the corporate world, where work efficiency and productivity are being tied to the benefits of slowing down on Sunday.
On April 7, 2025, Business Insider published a news story claiming how some medical and health care professionals are being taught to implement “device-free Sunday” as part of their training. The article expressed the following, in part:
• “I used to spend every evening glued to a screen until I noticed it was wrecking my sleep. Years before I began training medical and mental healthcare professionals in resilience-building, I didn’t give much thought to rest.” [1]
• “But over time, I noticed that my sleep wasn’t the only thing that took a hit. I had unknowingly developed a habit of constantly checking my phone and disappearing into screens throughout the day.” [1]
• “Now, in every session I lead, I see the same struggle. When I ask participants if they’re getting enough rest, only a few raise their hands. And each year, that number keeps shrinking.” [1]
• “I introduced device-free Sunday, a habit that initially felt like a challenge but quickly became a weekly gift.” [1]
• “Ever since I stopped my nightly streaming habit, I have recovered faster and feel more equipped to handle each day’s unpredictability with grace. Part of the work I do with my clients revolves around harnessing the power of joy as sustainable fuel.” [1]
Clearly, “device-free Sunday” is something that is being taught to certain health care professionals, and now, thanks to Business Insider, to a much broader and global audience. When the financial industry encourages us to reduce our social media exposure specifically on Sundays, it’s important to recognize that this advice isn’t rooted in science. They are simply repeating the same longstanding, false narrative of those who want to legally establish Sunday as a day of rest.
There is an organized effort to make Sunday the official day to unplug by elevating it above all other days of the week. By echoing this message, these multinational corporations and media organizations are aligning themselves with the beast and its image, in preparation to controlling the markets and implementing the mark.
“For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.” Revelation 18:3.
Reducing screen time on our mobile devices will certainly improve our health by enhancing sleep and reducing stress; but, choosing to take a pause from media is effective every day of the week, not just on Sundays.
