Health care systems are fully coming on board with religious institutions in promoting Sunday as the designated day of rest, wellness, and restoration. What began as a religious observance based on tradition is now gaining more and more support under the banner of mental health and work-life balance. Hospitals, wellness programs, and even public health campaigns are echoing the call to slow down on Sundays, citing benefits such as reduced stress, improved family relationships, and overall well-being. This growing collaboration between the medical field and religious advocacy is telling us that a major cultural shift is coming—one in which Sunday is not only seen as spiritually meaningful but also medically essential.
Integris Health is a health care system that provides several hospitals and health care facilities in the United States. On April 4, 2025, Integris Health published an article emphasizing the need to establish “self-care Sunday” in order to maintain fitness, mental health, and wholesome living. The article stated in part:
• “Participating in self-care Sunday is a great way to reset and recharge for the upcoming week. It’s all about dedicating a day to relax and replenish your body and mind. By carving out this special time for yourself, you’re prioritizing your well-being and showing yourself some much-deserved love and care.” [1]
• “Self-care Sunday offers a range of benefits. It helps reduce stress, anxiety and overwhelm by giving you a chance to unwind and reset. It boosts your mood and increases your overall happiness by engaging in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. It also enhances your physical health by allowing you to rest, exercise and nourish your body with healthy food and activities.” [1]
• “Whether it’s taking a long bath, going for a walk, practicing meditation or simply indulging in your favorite hobbies, self-care Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to prioritize yourself and nurture your well-being.” [1]
• “Put on your favorite podcast or playlist and enjoy the self-love that comes with unwinding as you de-stress with a perfect self-care Sunday walk.” [1]
• “At the top of the list of self-care Sunday ideas is cooking yourself a healthy meal. Trying a new recipe is one of those self-care practices that positively affects your physical health and can facilitate spending time with loved ones. Cooking isn’t just about rejuvenating your body; it’s also about rejuvenating your mind.” [1]
As world powers increasingly converge on the need for adopting Sunday observance, society is being conditioned to view this day as a universally beneficial institution. What may appear as a harmless call for rest is, in reality, laying the groundwork for a deeper and more permanent integration of a Sunday law into the fabric of daily life.
The growing movement to honor Sunday, though cloaked in seemingly good intentions like rest, health, and unity, is part of a much larger and more deceptive plan. Soon, Sunday will not just be promoted as just a voluntary rest plan for improving our health but as a mandated practice, enforced through civil legislation.
These efforts directly challenge God’s law, particularly the Fourth Commandment, which sanctifies the seventh day, Saturday, as the Sabbath. The constant manipulation we see today—through the media, healthcare systems, calls for religious legislation, and the global campaigns for rest and wellness—is preparing the world psychologically to accept Sunday as a universal day of rest.
“The Sabbath will be the great test of loyalty; for it is the point of truth especially controverted. When the final test shall be brought to bear upon men, then the line of distinction will be drawn between those who serve God and those who serve him not. While the observance of the false sabbath in compliance with the law of the State, contrary to the fourth commandment, will be an avowal of allegiance to a power that is in opposition to God, the keeping of the true Sabbath, in obedience to God’s law, is an evidence of loyalty to the Creator. While one class, by accepting the sign of submission to earthly powers, receive the mark of the beast, the other, choosing the token of allegiance to divine authority, receive the seal of God” (Great Controversy, p. 605).
