Pope Leo XIV is on the centuries-old mission of healing the divide between the various churches and reclaiming papal supremacy by urging Christians to return into full, visible unity through interfaith dialogue. Addressing a delegation from the Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, Pope Leo XIV reaffirmed the Vatican’s unyielding commitment to peace and reconciliation—on their terms. Cloaked in the language of understanding and cooperation, this ecumenical push is nothing short of a calculated effort to reverse the Reformation and reestablish papal authority over Christendom. Behind the appeals to “fraternal dialogue” lies the strategic ambition to dismantle doctrinal distinctions and absorb dissenting churches into the fold of the Roman Catholic Church.
On June 28, 2025, the Holy See Press Office published the following:
• “As I think back with gratitude on the progress made thus far, I assure you of my desire to persevere in the effort to restore full visible communion between our Churches. The attainment of this goal can only come about, with God’s help, through a continued commitment to respectful listening and fraternal dialogue. For this reason, I am open to any suggestions that you may offer in this regard, always in consultation with my brother Bishops of the Catholic Church who, each in his own way, share with me the responsibility for the complete and visible unity of the Church.” [1]
• “Your Eminences, dear brothers in Christ, I thank you most heartily for your presence in Rome on this solemn occasion. I ask you kindly to convey my cordial greetings to Patriarch Bartholomew and the members of the Holy Synod, together with my gratitude for sending a Delegation again this year. May Saints Peter and Paul, Saint Andrew and the Holy Mother of God, who live eternally in the perfect communion of the saints, accompany and sustain us in our efforts in the service of the Gospel. Thank you!” [1]
The problem with Pope Leo XIV’s message is that it’s not merely a call for cooperation on areas of common ground—it’s a calculated push for all denominations to ultimately realign under Rome’s spiritual authority. Let us not kid ourselves: this is the inevitable endgame of the ecumenical movement. Both the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy issue clear warnings against the rise of a centralized religious power in which Rome assumes the leading role. In plain terms, this agenda stands in direct opposition to the unique and prophetic mission God has entrusted to His people in the Book of Revelation. To adopt this path is to compromise the very identity and calling of the Protestant Reformation and the Remnant Church.
Yet some Adventist leaders continue to defend our participation in these ecumenical dialogues, insisting it’s merely about mutual understanding and an opportunity to share our message. But in reality, these interfaith gatherings come at the expense of our prophetic identity and evangelistic mission. By legitimizing Rome’s vision of unity, we silence the distinct truths God has entrusted to this movement and compromise the very warning we’ve been called to proclaim. It is time to stop justifying our involvement in a process that ultimately leads to the erosion and eventual rejection of the Three Angels’ Messages.
“The Lord gives a special truth for the people in an emergency. Who dare refuse to publish it? He commands his servants to present the last invitation of mercy to the world. They cannot remain silent, except at the peril of their souls. Christ’s ambassadors have nothing to do with consequences. They must perform their duty, and leave results with God” (Great Controversy, p. 609).
