Revival Didn’t End at the Church—It Continued Among the Staff of a Nairobi Hotel

On my final day in Kenya, just hours before my flight home, I thought my work was finished. I had already packed my bags and assumed there would be no need to put on a suit again. Surely it was finally time to rest. But God had other plans. For His honor and glory, the work of revival and spiritual renewal continued from one of the most unexpected places imaginable—the hotel where I was staying.

During my time in Nairobi, I stayed at LMS Guest House, a ministry-owned hotel operated by the East Kenya Union Conference. The campus is home not only to the hotel but also to Better Living Hospital, an Adventist Book Center, Nairobi Central Seventh-day Adventist Church, the East Kenya Union offices, Hope Channel Kenya, and Maxwell Preparatory School.

Throughout my stay, I regularly enjoyed meals in the hotel’s restaurant and came to appreciate the warmth, kindness, and Christlike hospitality of the staff. It also became a place where I had the privilege of meeting church administrators, members, business leaders, and many others whom God brought across my path.

Then, on the very day I was scheduled to return home, the Lord opened one more unexpected door. Mr. Babu Jared Alfred, the hotel’s general manager, is a devoted Seventh-day Adventist Christian who also serves as an elder in his local church. He graciously cared for me throughout my stay and knew I had come to Kenya to conduct revival meetings. After the meetings had concluded, he approached me with an unusual request. Would I be willing to share a message with the entire hotel staff before leaving for the airport?

In all my years of ministry and travel, I had never preached a sermon to the staff of a hotel. It was something completely outside the ordinary. But God’s work is not confined to church sanctuaries, conference halls, or evangelistic tents. Wherever hearts are open, that place becomes holy ground.

By God’s grace, I had the privilege of opening the Scriptures before the hotel’s housekeeping staff, front office personnel, food production and service teams, accountants, marketing staff, and administrators. It was a beautiful reminder that the gospel belongs everywhere people are found.

I continue to marvel at the countless ways God leads. Just when we think our assignment is complete, He reminds us that His opportunities are often waiting where we least expect them. His plans are always greater than ours.

As the meeting concluded, I stood at the exit of the conference room and greeted each staff member personally as they left—just as I often do after worship services in a church. It was a deeply moving experience that I will never forget. What a joy it was to see that the same Savior who meets people in church also meets them at work, in school, and in the ordinary places of life.

Please pray that God will continue to open doors like these around the world. May we never place limits on what He can accomplish through a willing heart. If we make ourselves available to Him, He will create opportunities to share His love in places we never imagined. The harvest truly is everywhere, and God is still calling His people to faithfully labor until Jesus comes.
