Roman Catholic Cardinal Raymond Burke composed a special prayer for the United States’ 250th anniversary, entrusting the nation to the Sacred Heart of Christ and to the protection of the Virgin Mary. This prayer forms part of the Trump administration’s “America Prays” initiative [1] and the “Year of Celebration and Rededication.” [2] These White House nationwide initiatives call on Americans to pray regularly for the country in the lead-up to the 250th anniversary of independence. The events are expected to culminate in the “Rededication of America Celebration,” a large worship gathering on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., scheduled for Sunday, May 17, 2026. Organizers describe these events as a time for national prayer, worship, thanksgiving, and a formal rededication of the nation and its people to God.
The Trump administration is not organizing these efforts alone. Faith-based participation in the 250th anniversary and “Rededication of America” programs includes Catholic organizations, evangelical Protestant churches, and groups often identified as Christian nationalists. Collectively, these groups are helping mobilize support by organizing prayer gatherings, distributing devotional resources, hosting worship services, utilizing media platforms to amplify the message, and encouraging churches and local communities to take part in coordinated prayer and patriotic observances connected to the 250th anniversary celebration.
Cardinal Raymond Burke has written a special prayer for America’s 250th birthday. It’s meant to be prayed daily as part of the national “rededication” effort. The prayer follows traditional Catholic beliefs, asking Jesus to bless the United States and asking the Virgin Mary to watch over and protect the nation. It’s being shared as a simple way for Christians to take part spiritually in the anniversary year and pray for the country’s future.
The “Daily Prayer for America 250” says in part:
• “Under the mantle of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, and through the intercession of her Immaculate Heart, bless my homeland anew, purify her from sin, and guide her leaders in truth, justice, and peace, so that she may safeguard all human life, respect the integrity of marriage and the family, and honor the practice of religion.” [3]
Vatican-based news correspondent Michael Haynes reports that Cardinal Burke “penned” this prayer for “this year’s 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence” and claims that it “form part of the ‘American Prays’ program with the White House.” [4]

The idea of formally entrusting the United States to the Virgin Mary as part of its 250th anniversary is not just historically inconsistent—it is prophetically significant. America was founded as a Protestant nation that rejected papal supremacy and the union of church and state that characterized medieval Europe. The Constitution deliberately avoided religious establishment, ensuring liberty of conscience for all. A Marian consecration, however, is a distinctly Roman Catholic devotional act rooted in doctrines and traditions that the Protestant Reformation explicitly opposed. Such a move would signal not a return to America’s founding principles, but a departure from them.
Prophetically, Revelation 13 describes a power arising from the earth—widely identified as the United States—that begins with lamblike principles of civil and religious liberty but eventually speaks as a dragon. A public, state-sponsored act aligning the nation with distinctly Roman Catholic spiritual authority would be viewed as part of that shift. This would erase our Protestant identity and contribute to establishing “an image” of the Roman papacy in the United States.
What may seem to many like harmless symbolism is, in reality, the merging of Americanism with Romanism, which contradicts everything religious freedom stands for. This would not commemorate the freedoms won in 1776 but rather foreshadow a deeper, prophetic trajectory: the healing of old divisions, the decline of our Protestant protest, and the increasing alignment of American political power with the very system of Papal power that prophecy depicts as exercising coercive religious influence in the last days.
